       Our Prototype Electric Shuttle
American Electric Vehicles (AEV) is passionate about electric vehicles.  We long ago concluded that the ideal electric vehicle must be designed from the ground up to maximize efficiency, reduce weight, and optimize component packaging, and it should use the best available batteries, chargers, motors, and controllers.  We also realized that the best market niche would be one where the vehicle could be driven a maximum of revenue miles per charge (intensity of use) within a predictable context.  These twin business objectives of intensity and predictability led us to the all-electric shuttle bus application.  We hope you enjoy reviewing our website as we describe our A6.7C production shuttle, a 22-foot (6.7 m) vehicle designed for fleets worldwide.

 2011-03-30   AEV at Busworld Conference

Shanghai, China

We recently displayed our prototype shuttle at the Busworld 2011 exhibition in Shanghai together with our manufacturing partner, Bonluck Business Bus of Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. At the exhibition Bonluck and AEV jointly announced the establishment of a New Energy Center at Bonluck’s facility in Nanchang.  “New Energy” is the expression used in Chinese for clean and green electric propulsion.

2010-12-09 AEV Tests its A6.7C  Shuttle in China

Nanchang, Jiangxi Province

AEV and its manufacturing partner, Bonluck Business Bus, recently completed two days of efficiency testing of AEV's left-hand-drive prototype electric shuttle at the Bonluck facility.  The tests yielded typical shuttle service ranges of 89/133 km (55/83 mi) for the shuttle with/without air-conditioning using 90% of its battery energy. The shuttle is slated for production during the second quarter of 2011. With its larger battery pack (100 kWh) the production shuttle will have a longer range than the prototype, which has a 72kWh pack.

2010-12-03 AEV Tests its Second Generation Controller

Palmer Lake, Colorado

Today AEV drove its test vehicle (an electric passenger van) powered by our proprietary second generation HS300 IPM motor and an RMS PM100DX controller.  The vehicle’s performance was very smooth and quiet.  A small amount of cogging was noticed during low speed startup, but much less than a multi-speed clutched gas or diesel vehicle would experience.  Dr. Dan Rivers, AEV’s CEO, stated that AEV is currently developing its third generation drive train to power the production shuttle. That drive train will exhibit higher startup torque to give the shuttle both excellent acceleration and gradeability of 25% or more at GVWR.

2010-11-17 AEV Digital Control System (DCS)Incorporates Parker Hannifin Display

Palmer Lake, Colorado

AEV has integrated a software customizable instrument panel developed and manufactured specifically for electric vehicles by Parker Hannifin Corporation (NYSE: PH).  AEV has also leveraged the resources of Parker Hannifin’s Electronic Controls Division (ECD) by developing a robust vehicle management system (VMS).  Together, these will yield a state-of-the-art system for the production version of the Shuttle

2010-09-21 AEV Signs Manufacturing Agreement

Nanchang, Jiangxi Province

American Electric Vehicles, Inc. (AEV) signed a manufacturing agreement with China’s Bonluck Business Bus to assemble its vehicles for markets around the globe.  In addition to manufacturing, the agreement also allows AEV to sell buses in China, India, and North America. Chris Groesbeck, AEV Director of Business Development, commented, "This is the second agreement that we have signed with Bonluck.  The relationship with them has been a good one, based on trust and the common goal of designing, building, and selling electric fleet vehicles worldwide."
